Assignment 1 (Full Scale Roughs)

After that tutorial session, I have decided to expand on the idea of food, using suggestions and helpful ideas/advice that was given to me... Thanks peeps! I really appreciate them :)

Here's idea 1:-

Instead of using all pizzas, I have opted to use a swirl bread to represent "a" and a donut which is bitten off to represent "n".

Idea 2:

Instead of using pizza, I have opted to use a slice of pie instead, with a fudge covered strawberry (yum yum) and a pudding.

Idea 3:-

I still like the idea of ice cream the best though, using wafer to represent "V" and a swirl layered ice cream to represent "A", and a fudge covered ice cream to represent "n".

Idea 4:-

Wafer sticks are a good choice for me to form a "V" too!

Playing around with the texture of the ice cream as well as caramel/fudge covering it, I thought I could form an "A" with it. An ice-cream lollie will be the best and most straightforward way to represent "n", what do you guys think?

Assignment 1 (Thumbnails Part 2)

Anyway I've decided to scrap the idea on using MacBook, and use the thing I do best at - EAT!

I just thought of pizzas:-

Anyway I've presented this in class, was just telling them how I was trying to picture how to bite a pizza off to make it look like an "N".

But in any case, my lovely tutorial mates were saying I could use other types of food, such as maybe a donut (with one part bitten off) to look like an "N", if not people will just think I like pizzas only. Sounds good right!

And the next thing is ice-cream:-

And make a guess where I got my inspiration from?

The main idea I got from is this voucher, as well as a recent visit to Swensen's for a Birthday Celebration where they offer complimentary firehouse on actual birthdays!

An another idea which actually came to my mind, was to use, instead of ice cream, I could use bananas or wafers or even a spoon to form a V!

And yes, was also saying I could use the chocolate fudge or caramel to form "N" at the end as well!

And eventually I ran out of ideas, I thought of using noodles, but it looks bad.

And I've always have had a soft spot for cadbury chocolate bars (was introduced to it by my grandmother when I was young, was never a fan of sweets but I can't resist chocolates!)

And actually I was trying to model after this:-

Doesn't look like it I know, I'll try harder next time!

And remember my previous post on my idea on how I love to be "on-the-go"?

Eventually I've decided to change it the theme to "travel".

And my usual caravan:-

I remember Julian saying something about this, but what do you guys think? Is this idea expandable? I was thinking of using the idea of a van, but shape the windows according to my name. Hmmm..

And yes, I thought of monocycle as well, because I actually saw someone on one couple of days back at NUS Central Forum!

And was researching the internet as well, you guys might want to take a look at this!

With the idea of the person using hands to balance oneself while on the monocycle, it can be used to form words!

You might wish to check out on the second link on how people develop a picture into different things using Photoshop, just thought it was cool! It was actually a contest and this was one of the entries!

And since I love traveling, people tend to associate traveling with world maps (we need maps to move around in unfamiliar countries, don't we!)

Using continents, I thought it can form my name. But Julian says it tends to get a little unrealistic, so we dropped this idea in the end.

Also, we can't live without luggages when we travel, and actually Siti (one of our tutors) suggested that I use luggages to stack up to form my name. But I'm not sure this is what she meant though!

Assignment 1 (Thumbnails Part 1)

I'm pretty excited about this whole new Visual Communications course - probably because I am always so amazed at how some effects can be so beautiful with the aid of programmes such as Photoshop and Illustrator.

However, I can't draw very well and hence, I feel that my designs pale in comparison with the others. But never mind, I guess practice makes perfect, I will work hard!

Today's lecture was on using objects to illustrate our names - our loves and hates. But Julian did mention it doesn't have to be love and hate, but we could expand on our ideas.

I stuck with it anyway, because I feel that using love and hate best represents a person's character, which is closely linked with one's name.

Anyway, a sneak peek at what I drew during lecture today:-

Actually I am a very impatient person, so I enjoy being "on-the-go". My name is Vanessa by the way, so I used the idea of the vehicle, VAN, to illustrate part of my name for the 1st design.

But one of my tutors said using a real vehicle, the van, isn't that good an idea. Hmmm..

And also, I can't live without my MacBook really! Not because it is a kind of "fashion statement" but I love it because it boots up fast and shuts down fast, I need MacBook to feel connected with the 2.0 world..

Anyway, will update with my designs later on!
