Assignment 4: Active Ageing Poster
The moment when this topic was given, the first thought that came to mind was to get my Grandmother to pose for me, haha!
I lost my mother at the age of 11, and my Grandmother has since taken over the role to take care of me, making sure that I don't go hungry, don't fall sick - which kinda makes up for the mother love that I have lost over the years.
I love my Grandmother, and I think she is an ideal model of being an Active Ager. She wants to travel the world (From Jan till now, she has visited Taiwan, Thailand, Perth and even went to Malaysia with her friends, still bugging me to bring her to Hokkaido to watch Cherry Blossoms!)
She has a mobile phone which is newer than mine, knows how to operate the video, enjoys shopping, wants to log on to the internet to learn new recipes and trying them out, exercises, does gardening - basically, living life to the fullest.
She reminds me very much of an eighteen or twenty-one year old girl, hence the tagline "Grandma Josephine is 79 going 18" - Do you sense the pun there?
Anyway, a very simple poster, but I'm just curious whether the logos are allowed...

Assignment 2 : Abstraction Levels
Blogger has been down for the longest time, and it is getting on my nerves!
Anyway, for the second assignment, we are required to draw 5 abstraction levels of various destinations, and for me, the newly-open Ion Orchard came to mind when they required us to take a location in Singapore.
Here's a shot of Ion Orchard @ night.
I love how the Ions resemble, or rather, reminds me of molecue bonds, and I thought it'd be very interesting to actually have Ion Orchard logo modeled after part of the structure.
If you look closely, the bulbs resemble that of the O in O-O bonds, and it the structure has very defined lines that shows the link between the two molecues.
I just thought this structure is pretty significant and does represent Singapore's step forward to becoming a highly-connected, tech-savvy country.
Abstraction Level 2: I removed all the 'noise' such as the logos between the molecue bonds - don't you think it looks much neater?
Abstraction Level 4 : I entirely forgot that we were supposed to use black and white only, but I followed the colour of the light bulbs and eventually came to..

Abstraction Level 3: I further cropped it, showing the very defined individual molecue bonds.
Abstraction Level 4 : I entirely forgot that we were supposed to use black and white only, but I followed the colour of the light bulbs and eventually came to..
Abstraction Level 5: And I added "ION ORCHARD" beside the self-created logo.
[Edit] My tutorial mates could recognise they resemble that of molecues, but however, they feel that it is too abstract, and as a creator myself, I need someone to point out my mistakes.
One of them suggested that I should outline the entire shopping centre if I want to retain the "molecues", and another said I could possibly take a shot of the entrance photo to the MRT.
I shall go take this weekend!

Assignment 1 (Full Scale Roughs)
I'm beginning to enjoy NM2208 tutorials more (although it's only the second lesson) but anyway I finally coloured my assignment!
Idea No. 1:-
Actually wafer biscuits is a good tool to form my "V", since it usually comes in such sizes. I had a swirled ice cream to form my A, and a chocolate covered ice cream to form my "n". I had feedback saying that perhaps I could make my "n" more obvious with different kinds of toppings on it.
Idea No. 2:
I had chocolate wafer sticks to form into a shape of "V", and my tutorial mates also feedback saying that I should make the caramel into a capital "A" shape, in a form of caramel flowing at the sides.
June also said I should use "glass" bowls/cup to put my ice cream in, with friends suggesting I can use opaque function tool to create that effect, will try! And also, June said my banana too long, it doesn't look real.. Hmmm I think I'd better start eating more ice cream these days... Anyone up for Swensen's Ice Cream buffet @ Ion Orchard with me?
But in any case, I was just reflecting while on my way back to Eusoff Hall - actually I don't know if this truly represents me and is just uniquely me. I had one of my classmates having a very unique concept of fusing Chinese and Malay icons to represent that she's of a mixed heritage, which really brought out the unique-ness and something which is truly her - and her designs are really fantastic!
Maybe I should go reflect more these few days... Hmmmm..
